References in Scriptures, Puranas and Bhavisya Malika related to the place of ‘Kalki Avatara’
Tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, ‘Kalki Avatara’, will take birth in a village called ‘Sambal’. This is mentioned in different verses of Shrimad Bhagwad, Shrimad Mahabharata, Kalki Purana and Bhavishya Malika.
Now, the question arises, “Where is Sambal Village located?”
Today, many people from different parts of India are calling themselves Kalki and calling their birthplace as the Sambal village. But, as per Shrimad Bhagwad, Bhavisya Mailka and Mahabharata’s ‘Vanparv’, there is only one place in India that is referred to, at first, as ‘Sambal’ and later on as ‘Sambhut Sambal’.
Shri Ved Vyas mentions in Shrimad Bhagwad that Lord Kalki will take birth in Sambal village and destroy the sins and the sinful (mlechas). The below verse, elucidates this:
“संबल ग्राम मुख्यस्य ब्राह्मन्यस्य महात्मन ।
भबने विष्णु जशश्य कल्कि प्रादुर्भाबिश्यती ।।”
Meaning: Lord Kalki will take human birth in the home of a prominent Brahmin of Sambal village, who would devotedly sing glories/praises of Lord Vishnu, every day.
Later, when Shri Ved Vyasa composed Mahabharata at the end of the Dwapara Yuga. He put forth the following verse, in the ‘Vanparv’ of the Mahabharata:
“कल्कि विष्णु जशानाम द्विज काल प्रचोदिता
उप्तसयते महाबिरजेया महाबुद्धि पराक्रम
संभूत संबलग्रामे ब्राह्मण बसति सुभे |”
Meaning: Lord Kalki will take birth in home of a prominent Brahmin, who would devotedly sing glories of Lord Vishnu and who resides in ‘Sambhut Sambal’, a village of Brahmins, which was especially established for the purpose of performing Yagna (fire rituals), in the region of Maa Birija.
In the history of Odisha, king Shri Jajati Keshari, hailing from the Som Vanshi dynasty, brought 10,000 brahmins from Kannauj (a place in Uttar Pradesh) to perform ten Ashwamedha Yagnas. A village for these Brahmins was established in the east of Maa Birija region (in Jajpur district of Odisha). Ved Vyas refers to this village as the ‘Sambhut Sambal’, in the above verse.
It is to be noted here that there is also a village named ‘Sambal’ in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh (a state in India).
Thus, with reference to the above verses, it is inferred that Lord Kalki will be born in the new Sambal i.e., Sambhut Sambal (Odisha) and not in the Sambal village of Uttar Pradesh.
Panch Sakhas, in the Bhavisya Malika, have reiterated, about the location of Sambal village. Mahapurush Achyutanand ji, in the second chapter of his book ‘Birja Mahatmya’ writes, further supporting Shri Ved Vyas’s words…
“सुन बार सुत, निहार बचना ए, अटे अच्युत ठार,
नाभि गया तीर्थ, हरिहर क्षेत्र, ग्राम टी संबल पुर”।
Sambal village is the place of Brahmin settlement, which was established in the eastern part of Maa Birja Devi’s temple in Jajpur (nabhi gaya) of Odisha.
